Le Jardin Retrouvé Citron Boboli & Rose Trocadéro
A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend another event organised by The Perfume Society and Shephen Matthews that allowed us to discover the revived Le Jardin Retrouvé perfume house. Le Jardin Retrouvé was founded in 1975 by Yuri Gutsatz, and was the very first of what would later become known as “niche” perfume brands. When he died in 2005, Le Jardin Retrouvé slowly declined but in 2016, Yuri’s son, Michel, decided to revive Le Jardin Retrouvé with his wife Clar

Perfume of the Week... You or Someone Like You by ELdO
About 10days ago, as guests of The Perfume Society, we had the opportunity to be present at the UK launch of the new ELdO perfume “You or Someone Like You” at Les Senteurs and had the added pleasure of hearing about the inspiration behind it from the man himself, Etienne De Swardt. Inspired by the book Chandler Burr wrote a few years back, Etienne liked the name so much that he gave Chandler complete freedom to create a scent that encompassed the book’s heroine and in collabo

Shanghai Tang -perfume review
Shanghai Tang was one of the collections that I wanted to try for a very long time so I was thrilled The Perfume (fairy godmother) Society included them in one their recent discovery boxes, the “Sharing Collection”, which included perfumes for both sexes. Needless to say I tried them all myself and although sharing is caring I am not parting with any of them until I try them first. Naturally I started off with the “men’s” perfumes of the Shanghai Tang collection. According to

#scentedstorage Share your stash!
For some people perfume collecting is a serious business. They hunt down long lost loves, vintage perfumes and bottles and continue to add to their collection literally every single day. The lovely people at The Perfume Society recognized our obsession and thought it'd be a good idea to show the rest of the world how we store our perfumes and share our obsession! Oh no no no this is not how my collection looks like AT ALL!! This is a staged photo shoot of my precious Aqua Al

Perfume of the week… Oxford by Ruth Mastenbroek
Yesterday I attended a workshop organized by The Perfume Society and presented by perfumer Ruth Mastenbroek about “The secrets of synthetics: perfumery’s magic molecules”. During the workshop we had the opportunity to sniff a lot of “mythical” synthetics that changed the course of perfumery and the first perfumes that included them in their composition. Jo Fairley of The Perfume Society with Ruth Mastenbroek During the process we tried Ruth’s perfumes as well and it gave me

Perfume of the week… Musc Ravageur by Maurice Roucel for Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle
Last week I attended a Perfume Society event at Selfridges where Frederic Malle with the help of Jo Fairley took us on a journey through the history, collaborations, evolution and inspiration behind the perfumes of the line along with some interesting stories about them. One involved Musc Ravageur while still on testing and his assistant who played the role of the guinea pig. While wearing the initial version on her way back home on public transport she had some “uncomfortabl

Rosa Moceniga, a Rose with history…
The Merchant of Venice is one of the brands that I heard a lot about but never really got a chance to try. The Perfume Society came to the rescue again and organised yet another wonderful event at the House of Fraser to introduce us to the brand and celebrate the launch of the new perfume Rosa Moceniga. Rosa Moceniga started as a project between The Merchant of Venice and author Andrea Di Robilant who wrote “Chasing the Rose” that tells the story of how this rose was imported

Kōdō, The Way of Incense… an event organised by The Perfume Society…
One of the perks of being a member of The Perfume Society is the opportunity to take part in the amazing events they organise. The one I attended a couple of weeks ago introduced us to the Japanese Way of Incense. Kōdō (香道, "Way of Fragrance") is the art of appreciating Japanese incense, and involves using incense within a structure of codified conduct. Kōdō includes all aspects of the incense process, from the tools (香道具 kōdōgu), to activities such the incense-comparing game
